August Progress & News

How hot has your August been?  It's been pretty hot and humid here in NYC, don't know about you but I'm looking forward to cooler temps coming soon.

A month of making, totally new designs to develop into patterns: a two compartment make-up bag and brush holder; a multi pencil case; and a satchel.

Working on a few tutes: how to make a pressing board; how to spiral quilt; and fabric pattern matching

One new tute is already on the blog - a double zippered pencil case large enough to hold a 12" ruler and a notebook too.

There were two blog hops, first the Benartex Back to School Blog Hop - this giveaway is now over, it was won by Apple Blossom -

but depending when you're reading this you might still have time to take part in the Quilters Take Manhattan Blog Hop
it ends at 10 am on Saturday, 10 September 2016 and is open internationally to everyone.

I've made two end of summer Squares Quilt challenge blocks for the NYC Metro MOD Quilt Guild,

and completed my July Improv Beyond The Bee block too.

I sent out instructions for my Improv: Beyond The Bee quilt blocks - I'm the Queen Bee for September.  I haven't started work on my own block yet, it'll be at least October and probably November before I have chance to work on it but putting the instructions together and sending out the fabrics to everyone in the Bee def counts as an August progress.

Delighted to discover my mini-butterfly cushion was featured in Hendes Verden, a Danish weekly women's magazine.

Oh, I resized a top for Flicky before she headed back to Scotland for her last year at the University of St Andrews and before she left she made herself this laptop case for Moriarty adding a front zippered pencil pocket to my zippy pouch tute

And I sneaked in this fun Hungry Caterpillar quilt, a first birthday gift for the son of one of my husband, Simon's work colleagues.

There were two made by ChrissieD newsletters in August.  Just in case you missed them here's the links so you can catch up:

If you'd like to subscribe and have future newsletters emailed directly to you, you can do so here - and, I'd love it if you'd let your friends know too :D

Projects in the pipeline for September include:

finishing my First Blush quilt for a Windham Fabrics blog hop coming up in October, it's sandwiched and basted ready for quilting;

my Mirabel Bowties quilt top blocks are made (see pic below) and at this stage they're now a bordered quilt top waiting for me to make a backing, baste, quilt and bind.  The Maribel fabric is a Windham Fabrics collection by Annabel Wrigley and the Bowties quilt pattern is from the new book A New Spin On Drunkard's Path by John Kubiniec of Big Rig Quilting - I'll be reviewing the book in Sept/Oct.

I'm off to South Africa at the weekend and when I get back I'm straight into Quilters Take Manhattan and being a contender in Quilt Match there, so there won't be time for anything really, I'll be more than happy to get the First Blush quilt finished tbh and progress on Maribel would be wonderful but at least the top's done.  Everything else will have to wait for October.

Finally, it's time to take a look how my UFO/WIP List looked at the end of July;

and let's compare it with the end of August - those last 8 columns on the right are all finished work:
Completed - AugustJulyJuneMayApril / March / February / January

Can't get over how much I'm achieving though I'd like to move more of the WIP/UFOs to the completed side rather than adding newly completed projects.  I'm using the web app Trello, a digital notebook, you can read more about it here in my January Progress Report.

and here's my updated UFO/WIP list at end August 2016
I'll carry on including the list in this format too so you can click through to the blog posts and read more but I'll also include my Trello boards because these are such a great visual of my progress.
